ENHYPEN Debut Trailer 1 Theory: Introduction to Vampire concept and Border: Day One

Note: This blog was edited. It was posted before on Tumblr and I decided to fix some errors as I move here.

ENHYPEN's music is tied with their idol life. It is becoming more apparent as they release more music. And so, I decided to go back and just lay down all the things I noticed from the debut trailers because it is an end of an era.

After all, the debut trailers teased the whole transformation from trainees to idols, or in their universe, from humans to vampires.

Debut trailer 1: from “trainee-artist”, “mortal-immortal”

The debut trailers just showed us the whole concept of ENHYPEN as vampires. They used the vampire concept as a metaphor to their life as idols. Debut Trailer 1 is their view as a newly-turned vampire or as a debuting trainee.

The quoted sentences is Jake's narration from the video.

We were desperate in our desire to transform. We believed that there lay dreams unknown, because every path is stained with tears.

They are desperate to transform as vampires/idols even if the path to that dream is uncertain or filled with hardships.

We keep our fist fiercely clenched, not knowing it to be a blessing or a curse, lest we lose what we hold in our hands.

They don’t know what will happen after debut. They don’t know if the path they will walk is good or not.

At this part of the video, the title of their debut song, Given-Taken appeared. We all know ENHYPEN was formed through a survival show and the group was decided through mostly by fan votes, so this title track, and the meaning behind it really fits their situation. They are not sure if the chance to debut is given to them (by the fans), or they took the chance to debut with their talent and skills.

However, even with their doubts, they still hold on to their dreams and the debut.

Blood-red moonlight blazes. Unquenchable thirst flares with fury.

This specific line, along with clock pointing to 11:30 in their first group photo and November 30 (11.30.2020) having a blood moon, gave us an idea that they will debut on the said date.

And its true!

The others look up to us in veneration, and we look upon them with envy. Why do we desire what we cannot acquire?

A lot of trainees look up to them and envy them but they feel conflicted with the way they debuted (coming from a survival show). Knowing that a lot of people look up to them, as trainees and as vampires, even if there’s no guarantee that the life is always good, they ask themselves, “why do we desire what we cannot acquire?”

Why must we walk along an endless lineAt dawn, the sun rises to menace and bless our fleshy selves.

Another hint to Border: Day One. The Intro: Walk The Line and Dawn album version.

The last line also explained the ending of debut trailer 2, which I will talk about on the next theory post.

Additional Notes:

  • The blood moon on November 30, 2020 was also known as Child Moon, because evening before the day was the earliest sunset of the year with a full moon in the sky. It is also called as the Cold Moon, Frost Moon, Winter Moon and Penumbral Lunar Eclipse because the moon will pass through a lighter part of Earth’s shadow.
  • It seems like they will have their comeback every full moon because of their vampire concept. (Their first comeback also happened in a full moon, April 26, 2021)
